Fourteen weeks inside a working professional rugby environment
Experience Professional Rugby. Develop Your Potential.
The International High Performance 14-Week Rugby Pathway is designed for aspiring elite players seeking to experience a genuine professional rugby environment.
Delivered through the rugby programmes at Brunel University London, the pathway provides players with access to high-performance coaching, strength and conditioning, performance support services, competitive fixtures, and professional development opportunities.
Participants train within an environment that mirrors the standards, expectations and daily demands of full-time professional rugby, while receiving individual support to maximise their development both on and off the field.
Fourteen weeks structured into four progressive phases.
Week 1
The opening week establishes each player's individual development plan through a comprehensive assessment process.
This enables coaches and performance staff to create a personalised development framework for every player.
Weeks 2 to 5
Players enter a full-time, five-day training environment built to develop the technical, tactical, physical and psychological foundations required for high-level rugby.
At the end of the block, players undertake a short recovery and regeneration period before progressing into the next phase.
Weeks 6 to 8
The second phase focuses on applying learning within competitive environments, across four active training days per week.
Includes two high-performance fixtures against quality opposition.
Weeks 9 to 14
The final phase emphasises performance under competitive pressure, with players fully integrated into training while increasing their exposure to match play.
Includes four competitive fixtures, giving players the chance to demonstrate their progression and performance.
During the transition period between Block One and Block Two, participants may choose to undertake an exclusive behind-the-scenes professional rugby experience (additional cost).
Potential Destinations
Experiences may include training observations, facility tours, performance presentations and matchday access.
Fixtures are scheduled against a range of challenging opposition, potentially including:
Elite performance extends beyond the training field. Participants complete a structured personal development curriculum that prepares them for the demands of professional sport and for careers beyond rugby.
The programme launches as an exclusive pilot cohort of just five carefully selected players. Places are offered only to athletes who demonstrate the potential, commitment and performance level required to benefit from a professional development environment.
Participants are fully integrated into the rugby programmes based at Brunel University London, gaining daily exposure to elite coaching, performance support services and competitive rugby.
Every player also receives a bespoke six-week pre-arrival training programme, designed to ensure they arrive in peak physical condition and ready to maximise the opportunity.
To develop better rugby players, stronger athletes and more capable young professionals, equipped to succeed in elite sport and in life beyond rugby.
This is not a holiday camp. The Men's 15s Programme is fourteen weeks inside a working professional rugby environment, embedded on the campus of one of the UK's leading universities, with a direct line into the English Championship through Ealing Trailfinders.
Built for serious athletes who want a structured, residential block of training and pathway exposure that is not available anywhere else in the United Kingdom. Fourteen weeks alongside professional staff, on professional pitches, eating professional meals, with full-time coaching, strength and conditioning, sports science and video analysis built into every day.
A full-time, three-month residential training programme. This intensive format is designed to maximise development in a focused block, giving athletes a structured environment to train, develop and progress.
Fourteen weeks at IRL is fourteen weeks playing for the Brunel University Saturday team. The standard is extremely high. Brunel sides are part of the BUCS Super Rugby and senior university pathway, and the Brunel Saturday squad steps up into Regional 1 next season, the next tier of the English club rugby pyramid below the national leagues.
Match exposure inside the camp is not friendlies and not internal scrimmages. It is competitive senior rugby, against committed senior club opposition, week in and week out. Athletes train all week to a professional standard and then take the field on Saturdays alongside players already operating at senior club calibre.
Train all week with professional staff. Play on Saturday against senior club opposition. Step up with the squad into Regional 1 next season.
The camp is built in three blocks, each with a clear performance and development goal. Each phase builds on the last.
Movement screening, baseline testing, individual S&C programmes, skills audit and position-specific groundwork. Athletes are profiled, weak points are identified, and the personal training plan for the following eight weeks is set.
Heavy training block. Increased volume in skills and S&C, introduction of match-style scenarios, unit-specific work and the first structured exposure opportunities. Mid-camp review with the athlete, the coaches and where appropriate the parent.
Performance phase. Match exposure with the Brunel Saturday side, peak conditioning, video-led tactical work, pathway interviews and final assessments. Athletes leave with a written individual development report, video clips, baseline-to-final test data and a documented pathway recommendation.
Every athlete leaves with three things. A measurable record of physical progress. A written technical and tactical report from the coaching staff. A clear next-step recommendation, whether that is an academy trial, a senior club route, a return for a longer programme, or continued development with their home club. No athlete leaves IRL without a plan.
Every IRL programme exists to open doors.
The ten-year partnership between IRL and Ealing Trailfinders RFC is the foundation of the academy. Camp athletes train within reach of the Championship club's daily environment, are assessed by coaches with eyes on the senior pathway, and have a route that progresses into trial, academy and senior selection conversations where the standard supports it.
Athletes spend fourteen weeks embedded on the Brunel University London campus, training in its facilities and playing for the Brunel Saturday side. The Brunel Saturday squad steps up into Regional 1 next season, putting athletes in competitive senior rugby in front of coaching staff week after week.
IRL maintains relationships with overseas partners and visiting coaching staff. Strong performers in the camp are visible to a network that includes professional and semi-professional clubs in multiple territories, opening options if the UK club route is not the right fit.
None of this is guaranteed. Every athlete earns what they earn. What is guaranteed is the exposure, the assessment, the feedback, and the standard.
The decision to send an athlete into a residential rugby programme is significant. Here is the detail behind it.
Built inside the safeguarding framework of Ealing Trailfinders RFC and Brunel University London. Every staff member working with under-18s holds an enhanced DBS check. Designated Safeguarding Leads are in place, with 24-hour pastoral cover across the residential campus and a named point of contact for parents.
Single-room on-campus accommodation at Brunel University London. Three meals a day prepared on site, with menus that meet the nutritional needs of athletes in heavy training. Laundry facilities, communal social space, and a secured campus.
Brunel University London is a research-led institution with a long history in sport science, physiotherapy and allied performance disciplines. Athletes train on that campus with daily access to its facilities and performance support services.
IRL is selective. Places on the Men's 15s Programme are limited and earned through application, references and where appropriate trial.
One fee. Fourteen weeks. Everything an athlete needs to train at a professional standard, on a professional campus, with a professional partner club. No additional accommodation, food, training, facility or kit fees.
